Backview Solarized

Backview Solarized, originally uploaded by veesvision.
Via Flickr:
Solarized photo. For months and I'd venture to say a little over a year, I have been trying this technique finally came up with this mash-up.
Edited using only Adobe Lightroom. Yes, only Lightroom. I am proud that I only used Lightroom because the program has it’s limitations unlike Photoshop where the possibilities are virtually endless. Don’t get me wrong I love Photoshop but there is a little pressure to perform, you know? Lightrooms sliders make results a bit more random and forces me to really conciser the few tools available.

Where I buy Puerto Rican Ingredients

Via Flickr:
Fresh fruits grocery on 5th ave between 49-50th streets. This is where all of the Puerto Rican sofito and pasteles ingredients are. I will be posting about pasteles very soon.

Why am I going to post about such a secret dish you ask? Well, I have come to realize that the world is changing. I had never learned how to make this traditional Puerto Rican dish and it pains me to know that my friends, cousins, aunts, uncles and moms never learned either. It is an art and it really is a group project. This past weekend I hosted the inaugural Pastele Making Party. It was a smash success. The best part, we were not all Puerto Rican. In fact, I dare say Puerto Ricans were the minority, which is why I will be posting about the pastele making. If we all begin to look for these ingredients, they will always be available.

Election Day IS TODAY

Election Day IS TODAY, originally uploaded by veesvision.

No one waiting to vote at this Sunset Park Brooklyn branch (PS169). There is almost never a line; weird because this school has a ridiculous over crowding issue. "Overcrowding has pushed some classes into the halls." - quote from InsideSchools.org

Get out and vote folks! The time is now.

A little background on this shot: I see this family a few times a week. They ride their #bikes to school. A couple of years ago, it was dad with son. This year little sister appeared and I loved that. Today I finally asked if I could take a photo- too bad the picture with them all smiling didn’t come out too well. I liked this one better.

Sunset Park Brooklyn Greenway

I don't know if these two projects are connected. I can only imagine they are but I couldn't find any solid facts saying so. On one of my bike/photo walks, I came across a few of these signs and thought they might be. Anyway, I also thought this was a strange location (62nd street between 6th and 7th ave) where there are a few "sweat shops" (I call them manufacturing warehouses) and recycling centers. The road is industrial and seems a bit dangerous as there are no pedestrians really and more tucks. Not my idea of green or a bike trail but still fascinating! In a time where so many Americans are screaming for manufacturing jobs to come back to the U.S.A. I found 3 manufacturing warehouses on this block.

Here are the other posts about them:

I was having coffee minding my own business when I knocked over my own coffee. THE whole dang cup - didn't even get a taste of the pumpkin spice flavor that I was so excited about. Luckily one employee saw what happened and comped me the next cup (which was delicious)! So unexpected, I still paid for the first in the tip jar ;) thanks y'all!

I just love this place! If you are in the area, check it out. It's a coffe shop and they now serve wine. Sunset Perk also has a small movie screening area that would be fabulous for an indie movie showing. We are in New York after all.

It's My Park Day! Sunset Park

Just wanted to share some information. Back in 2009, a small group of residence came together to do something about the obscene amount of trash that accumulated in the park. They came out every weekend to pick up trash and soon earned notability in the area. Today, residence and community groups from Sunset Park still come together to help keep the park clean of trash.

Learn how to volunteer with some of these groups on It's my Park Day! May 19, 2012 in Sunset Park's park, Brooklyn.

Say what? Yes! According to the City Farmer News, Sunset Park will soon have the largest one in the WORLD. This is great news- talk about buying local.
