What you see in Sunset Park: American Flags

61st Street at 6th Avenue, originally uploaded by Vicariously_Me.
Shot on 61st Street at 6th Avenue. I walked down this block the other day and thought it was perhaps the most patriotic street in the neighborhood.

Sunset Park Photos Showing in Chelsea

iPhone App Altar, originally uploaded by veesvision.

UPDATE from last post:
Show has been postponed until further notice...

That’s right! From April 1, 2010 until April 30, 2010 a local area photographer will be showing a series entitled “Sunset Park Santos” at La Taza De Oro (96 8th ave between 14 and 15th streets).

Much like the neighborhood of Sunset Park, the venue is a throwback to 70’s – 80’s style. It maintains it’s modern day appeal, however due to the relaxed atmosphere, hearty meals, and secret celebrity drop ins.

By the way this local photographer happens to be me!

What You see in Sunset Park, Brooklyn: Sun Setting

Sunsetting in Sunset Park, originally uploaded by mnwpng.
The trees don't quite look like this yet, but spring fever prevails for some local gardeners. The Sunset Park Garden Club had been planting, cleaning, and beautifying Sunset Park's park for a little over 8 years now and have done a great job. They have begun clearing out leaves and broken branches in a few of the small gardens around the park.

If you would like to volunteer to help the gardeners, they will be out full force on "It's my Park day" May 15th this year. Bring gloves and elbow grease.

Here comes the sun...

It's finally nice in the city. Get out, enjoy the weather, and shoot some pictures.

View Highlighted in NY Daily News

NY Daily news has been giving a lot of love to Sunset Park lately. Sorry haters.  A couple of weeks ago I noticed an entire page filled with places to go if you are not from here including a listing about La Gran Vida Bakery. (try the 'Mexican cake')
Click here for the small listing about having a picnic and seeing the sights from today's paper. The people watching isn't bad here either.

What you see in Sunset Park, Brooklyn: A lone skater

Classic Sole, originally uploaded by Buendia Productions.
Well maybe in this shot there is a lone skater, but when the weather is nice, there are at least a dozen or more skaters in the park. Hopefully this summer I will be able to take some shots of the ollies and kick flips I hear from my studio.

Although I personally have never been in this restaurant, I know it well because of the ornament. Defiantly a landmark.

5th ave 5th between 40th and 39th streets.

The bowling alley is actually called "Melody Lanes". This picture really looks musical with the spot lights.

Pretty Rooftop View

Sunset Park gets it's name for the beautiful sunsets seen from the park. The above image however, is an excellent example of the colors visible from different vantage points.
