Where to find Lucha Libre Masks

Lucha Libre Wrestler Masks, originally uploaded by veesvision.
Well, there are several places here in Sunset Park to find variations of Lucha Libre Masks. These were shot on 5th ave somewhere between 60 and 63rd streets. I have seen a few places on 5th between 40th street and 63rd selling them. But you gotta come here to get them.

How to get here? This part of Sunset Park is off of the N and R lines; stations 45th street and 53rd street will get you to the Latino part of town (5th ave).

Hopefully B.I.D. will host another summer event. That's when I shot this.

What you see in Sunset Park, Brooklyn: Party Dresses

Communion Dresses, originally uploaded by carnade.
Summer is also time for visitors. Visitors, equals parties... parties and weddings. Love the view point of this shot! It has inspired me to go out and "shop" for dresses myself.

First Day of Summer

Spray Sprinkles, originally uploaded by veesvision.
This image was shot last summer in Sunset Park's park. It has since been painted. I am fairly positive it will be on today for the kids as today will reach 90 degrees.

Welcome to the first day of summer.

I do not know who Javy is but the above image is a mural I see frequently shopping on 5th ave.

Bodega for sale !

Bodega for sale, originally uploaded by veesvision.
Anyone interested in an existing business venture? This Bodega sits at an EXCELLENT location. One block away from the park, one block away from the main ave (5th), 2 blocks from the train, lots of coops (4 large coops less than a block away) and privet homes all around -this store is on the corner of 6th ave and 45trh street. It is one of the largest bodegas in the neighborhood.

What you see in Sunset Park, Brooklyn: Skate kid

Skate kid, originally uploaded by carnade.
Lots and lots of "skate kids" (all ages) skate in and around the neighborhood. If you skate (or freestyle on a bike or blades), Sunset Park seems to be the place to show off the latest trick.

Happy Puerto Rican Day!

que bonita bandera, originally uploaded by veesvision.
Puerto Rican day is next Sunday. The world famous parade will be on NYC's 5th ave. on June 13, 2010 according to Chiff.com. It starts on 44th street and rides to 86th street in Manhattan (from 11am until 6pm)

If you are brown and proud, say it, wear it, show it off!  WEPA!
We are so good at that.

Brown and Proud

Brown and Proud, originally uploaded by veesvision.
Well, if you know me, I am not exactly brown... but that is part of Puerto Rican history. For the past couple of weeks I have brushed up on my island history and it really is depressing.

Why do Puerto Ricans look all kinds of different?
After Columbus dropped off his merry men (who were Spanish light skinned) they enslaved the Tainos (brown skinned). Ahem... 1 plus 1 = ...you know. Then later on in history Ponce de Leon brought over African slaves because the Tainos were dying off too quickly due to starvation, dehydration, among other things like rape and disease.
After that, there was a time the Dutch tried to flex and then the French.

I guess the next chapter that will be written, will be about it's statehood. Click here for an article in the NY Daily News on this topic. Care to discuss? Click on the picture above to be redirected to the Flickr page. One may leave a comment there.
